The Femicide’s Story
(La oscuridad dentro de mi. El relato femicida)
Which is the cultural fabric that has historically legitimized violence against women?
Statistics on femicide in Argentina are overwhelming. The individual stories and the very nature of the phenomenon, however, are sometimes blurred in everyday’s recounting and daily report. The cases are repeated so intensely and frequently that the details and particular circumstances are left aside. Thus this dizzying sequence may be an obstacle to remember the victims and to understand their traumas.
In this book, Osvaldo Aguirre gives a detailed account of five of these cases based on a series of judicial files, interviews and archives. These cases show different aspects of violence: the preconceptions of Justice, the multiple difficulties of the victims to be heard, the common places that naturalize bad treatments and legitimize crimes, the trauma of the femicides’ children, the forms of aggression that are covered under stereotypes and corny love stories. At the center of this social fabric, the femicides’ voice appear.
